I have never lived in a place where you have to be EARLY to catch the bus. And while neither are rarely more than a minute early, the 192 and 145 - the only 2 forms of public transport to Badhoevedorp - are never really late. So, this has taken some getting used to. I run a lot to make buses.
On Sunday night my friend Sarah and I were playing Wii at Fred's for quite a while.. I looked up the bus schedule on 9292ov.nl (one of my closest friends since I have gotten here) early in the evening and then didn't think about it again for hours. Around 8:55, I realized I was going to miss the bus that left at 9, so I sat back, relaxed and beat the computer at another game of tennis. At 9:23, I realized that i actually DID need to run to catch the 9:30 bus, so i quickly gathered my stuff, hugged Sarah and shot out the door. I arrived out of breath at my stop only to learn that the bus comes at 9:28, not 9:30. So...so much for that one. I contemplated walking back to Fred's but decided by the time I got back, it would be time for me to turn around again. So i sat down and huddled with myself for warmth in the yucky Dutch drizzle. I pulled out my crossword book and anxiously started checking my phone clock every 2 minutes as I waited for half an hour. 9:56 rolls around, and I get excited. Then, the unthinkable happens - I actually think of a clue to the crossword that I had been mindlessly staring at for half an hour. Before I know it, I have 3 clues answered! I glance up, very self satisfied, just in time to see the 145 bus fly by me (they only stop if they see someone waiting for them at the stop, and since my head was down and i was sitting down, the driver obviously thought I wasn't waiting for him). so even though i ran after him yelling, "NOOOOOOOO - wait for ME!!!!" it was too late.
so...after initially shooting to be home at 9:30 sunday night, I think i rolled in about 11:15 (it took even a little bit longer because I got out 2 bus stops earlier than i needed to...)
oh the joys of figuring a new place out.

OH Kate, I am sorry. I bet you are in better shape.
Well, I am at least glad you got your word for your crossword! I guess you will be getting much more prompt in the future! I love and miss you. Hows your Dutch coming along? Love and hugs
