Ljubljana

So it is funny how much more quickly days pass when you are with other people. I got onto the train today headed to Ljubljana and realized that I had been in Zagreb for nearly a week. I have NO idea what I was doing with my time there, but apparently it was fun!

I actually really enjoyed hanging out in a home, playing board games, and getting coffees with friends. Yesterday Crevar, Vjeran, and I hiked for an hour or 2 up to the top of a mountain on the outskirts of Zagreb. It was a fairly steep, decent climb, but it wasn't awful because it wasn't that long. At the top, we ate yummy beans and sausage stew that is very croatian. Crevar was telling me the difference between hiking in Europe and hiking in the States is that when you go hiking in the states, you are doing it to get away, be by yourself, get to the top and see nature. When you go hiking in Europe, you are by yourself on the trail and enjoying nature, but when you get to the top, you expect a "house" with beer, food, and people. it's true - all the trails were labeled by which "house" was at the top them.

I got to Ljubljana mid-afternoon today, and I am already really glad that I took Mct and Shaun's advice and came here. it is beautiful. it isn't as big as Zagreb, but it is much more beautiful. There is a river that runs through the middle of town and an "old town" that is more touristy around it. I walked through that area but i haven't been around much else yet. I did meet up with my friend Miha for coffee - i met him last week when he was in Zagreb. He works for the tourist office, so he showed me some good restaurants to eat at and advised that i should get a bike tomorrow to see the city. I think I am going to go hiking about an hour and a half away on Wednesday, if the weather is still as gorgeous as it is right now.
I am out to grab dinner now and then meet up with another friend - Mateja - that came down and spent a few days in Zagreb while I was there.
