Southern France

I have been in southern France since early tuesday morning, staying with Jackie and Del - my friend steve's aunt and uncle. It has been absolutely relaxing in a really great way. The weather is finally almost hot. The scenery is incredible - the Pyrenees mountains are just a short distance away, so i wake up every morning and see those. Then the beach is only about an hour away. In between is lovely, French countryside with lots of tiny villages, old houses, and cute French people. Today we went to Biarritz. It is a medium sized beach town where a lot of fairly wealthy people live. It was great though - my first time at a warm beach in a really long time. I got to lay out for several hours while steve, Del, and jackie walked around. They bought a really crap frisbee that we couldn't throw bc it was so small and lightweight. It made me really really miss ultimate and just throwing the disc.

Steve and I went into Pau on Thursday - it is the biggest town in the area. It is maybe the size of chattanooga?? (just a guess - I am sure several people will actually do the research and tell me I am wrong). we roamed around - saw a castle, lots of parks, a pretty river. That is about the most that we have done this week. I have been reading some, doing some crosswords, but mostly just drinking a lot of tea (though I still get at least one big cup of coffee in every day), drinking yummy French wine, and hanging out. Steve and I have played at least 15 games of rummy, and he has yet to win. Now I know how my dad feels when he plays my mom in hand and foot...

Now that i am sitting down to think about it, I guess I am starting to wonder what I have been doing all day every day for the last 4 days. No clue, really. but it has been lovely. i am starting to think a bit about what i am going to do when i am done with this vacation. It is pretty overwhelming, so mostly i just push it back into the back of my mind. For now, I know that i will be in SF through worlds. Who knows where I am headed after? Or when I will leave SF? After seeing so many countries, I would really love to live in a different country for a while. Just need to figure out how to do it. Anyone have any brilliant ideas?

I am so glad you are having a relaxing time. My parents are here for the weekend. We are having fun not doing anything either. No agenda is good. Miss you.

Now southern France sounds like a place I would like to relax in! Actually after the busy week I have been having, I think anyplace relaxing would be nice. It really sounds lovely Katie, so soak up some sun for me. Janelle turns 15 on Tuesday, can you believe that? She is already bugging me about getting her permit. She had a swim party with some of her friends on Friday and we are going out with Jana, Todd, Nana and Papa on Tuesday. So glad you are enjoying your time in SF. Love and hugs!
